MYfilter
is a next generation proxy
filter that provides
unparalleled analysis of
websites, allowing you
the confidence in what your
users can access over the
Internet. The strength of
this product lies in it
exception handling allowing
you to simply and quickly
refine user policies for
each and every individual
within your organisation.
Within a typical large
organisation each department
will have its own unique
requirements for Internet
access.
From restricted and business case driven access
within customer facing departments, specialised
access for I.T. Staff, through open and
unrestricted access for users undertaking
generalist research.
MYfilter is deployed normally as an appliance
with the server being either set as the default
proxy for all users PC's to connect to the
Internet. Normally to ensure security and to
prevent users circumventing the proxy it should
be the only device within your internal network
that is allowed to connect to the Internet.
Once deployed
MYfilter can be pre-populated with user
and group accounts from most Directory
Services (Active Directory/LDAP etc) or
can be set to automatically learn who
your users are. MYfilter can make use of
standard desktop Single Sign On
facilities so users do not need to have
separate accounts or usernames and
passwords for accessing the Internet.
In most cases users will not even be
asked to login as MYfilter can
automatically access their login
credentials from their browser. Each
MYfilter appliance can be configured
with a single ROOT policy that will
control all users and group access. This
policy can then be further refined by
setting individual or group policies.
Additional refinements can be made be
adding to individual and group white
lists and black lists.
All these options can be time dependent and
additionally, access to types of web sites can
be time limited.
For this example, we look at an organisation
with 4 main departments, Call Centre, I.T.,
Sales and Marketing, Accounts and a Senior
Management Team.
Set
ROOT Policy to prevent access to all
pornographic and illegal web content.
Set
a Policy for call centre staff to prevent access
to all web sites except a specific white list of
sites with
direct
relevance to their day to day duties.
Set
Policy for Sales and Marketing and Accounts
departments to block access to all non business
websites.
Set
Policy for I.T. Department to allow downloads
and permit access to all business orientated web content.
Set
Policy for Senior Management to access to all
business orientated web content with additional
access
to
travel and new sites.
Advanced policy management can be employed to
allow staff access to non-business web content
for only one hour a day. As users attempt to
access non-business web sites they are informed
that theses sites are restricted and can be only
accessed for one hour per day and asks if they
want to start using the site. If they do accept
the terms and conditions they will be allowed
access to non-business sites for one hour and
after that time period access with be blocked.
The settings for this are configurable to your
needs.
In this fashion it is possible to configure any
level of refinement to allow custom policies for
each and every group or user within your
organisation.
