MYfilter is a next
generation proxy filter that provides
unparalleled analysis of web sites
allowing you the confidence in what your
users can access over the Internet.
With the addition of MYiNTERNET the
world's largest "walled garden", this
product offering will provide
unparalleled web access security and
flexibility. The MYfilter plus
MYiNTERNET product combination allows
you to configure and refine web access
policies to meet your users exact needs.
An obvious scenario for use of this product is
within education, although I would stress that
there are others, most noticeably in situations
where not all users can/will sign an Internet
Acceptable Use policy but still require to use
the Internet as part of their day to day duties.
Education departments
require a great deal of flexibility
within a standard filtering product as
they have an extremely varied user
population, ranging from ICT support
staff, teachers and pupils ranging in
ages from 5 to 18. The MYfilter +
MYiNTERNET product combination has been
specifically designed to provide all the
functionality and flexibility that is
required to deal with all forms of usage
required.
The MYfilter + MYiNTERNET product
combination is deployed on a single
appliance with the server being either
set as the default proxy for all users
PC's to connect to the Internet.
Normally, to ensure security and to
prevent users circumventing the proxy,
it should be the only device within your
internal network that is allowed or has
permission to connect to the Internet.
Once deployed MYfilter + MYiNTERNET can be
pre-populated with user and group accounts from
most Directory Services (Active Directory/LDAP
etc) or can be set to automatically learn who
your users are. MYfilter + MYiNTERNET can make
use of standard desktop Single Sign On
facilities so users do not need to have separate
accounts or usernames and passwords for
accessing the internet. In most cases users will
not even be asked to login as MYfilter +
MYiNTERNET can automatically access their login
credentials from their browser.
Set
ROOT Policy to prevent access to all
pornographic and illegal web content.
Set
a Policy for Primary School children preventing
all Internet access except access to web content selections
from the MYiNTERNET catalogue. In this manner
their Internet access is completely restricted
to
pre-approved
web materials that have been aligned to specific
curriculum or learning outcomes. Due to
the
nature of MYiNTERNET it allows young children to
use the Internet unsupervised without the possibility
of misuse and the knowledge that all Internet
access is educationally lead.
Set
Policy for under 16's using a restrictive
filtering policy ensuring they cannot access
inappropriate or
non-educational
web sites.
Set
Policy for 16-18's using less restrictive
filtering policies with access to a wider range
of Internet Web
sites.
Set
Policy for teaching staff giving access to the
widest range of web content possible - but still
ensuring
that
all Internet access is appropriate.
Set
Policy for ICT staff giving access to the widest
range of web content possible - but still
ensuring that
all
Internet access is appropriate. Additional
settings can be configured to allow ICT staff to
access and
download
software updates and drivers - that all other
users will normally be prevented from accessing.
Advanced policy management
can be employed to allow senior pupils access to
specialist web content on a pupil-by-pupil basis
as their needs are identified. For example if a
student required access to Holocaust or similar
materials an exception rule can be easily added
to allow only that specific student to access
those materials during a limited period of time.
The settings for this are configurable to your
needs.
In this fashion it is possible to configure any
level of refinement to allow custom policies for
each and every group or user within your Local
Education Authority and schools.
